The Jean Shy Farris Reading at the Northwest African American Museum provides the museum’s diverse audiences with books and other print resources for education and leisure purposes, specifically as they relate to the history and culture of African Americans in the Pacific Northwest. The space serves as an inviting area for relaxation, conversation, and play within the museum. As well, Reading Room collections support staff research for exhibitions and programs, and visitors’ own academic scholarship. The collections of the Reading Room are available for visitors to read at no cost, and museum members are able to check out books for personal use.
